2005 Tucker’s Run Syrah
$28.00
Tucker’s Run is the name of a unique little vineyard on the La Presa property in Santa Ynez. Tucker was the favorite dog belonging to our good friend Eric Caldwell and he names this small growing area after him. The vines are perched on the side of a steep south facing cornice which means it received maximum warm sunshine during the growing and ripening period. The grapes had to be handpicked because of the steep terrain and the cluster yield was quite low. Mike Brown decided to present this wine with deep maturity, and so it was aged in French Oak for a period of two and a half years and further ten months in the bottle. This wine is ready for drinking now and has all the characteristics of a mature Syrah. It has bright berry flavors with some sappy boysenberry tones and an earthy cocoa finish. Its body is not too heavy and the tannins are subtle, making it a very nice wine to drink on its own, although a blackened New York Cut or classic Lamb shank are an unbeatable combo. The production of this wine is limited so be sure to get your hands on some.
