60% Barossa Valley Shiraz (1999 Vintage, Kabininge Vineyards, South Australia)

30% Santa Ynez Valley Merlot (2001 Buttonwood Farm Vineyards, California)
10% Santa Ynez Valley Cabernet Franc (2001 Buttonwood Farm Vineyards, California)
The Australian Shiraz was aged in neutral American oak for over 18 months in Australia and then transported to California where it was kept a further 11 months in 2 year old French barrels. In 2003 it was blended with the wines Mike had produced at Buttonwood and then aged as a blend for 6 months. The wine was bottled in 2004 and released later in that same year. The wine shows off classic Australian Shiraz characteristics with rich berry flavors and a full bodied style. The Merlot adds some classic structure and mildly complex tannins. The Cabernet Franc adds a delightful nose and some soft chocolate overtones on the finish. As the name suggests the wine is opulent, soft, smooth and classy. Enjoy this wine with crusted rack of lamb or a flame grilled Rib eye steak.
